Allegrini's new venture in Lugana has officially begun, after the purchase of 40 hectares in the appellation (in the Municipality of Pozzolengo, in the province of Brescia), which are in addition to the 10 hectares rented 3 years ago in Desenzano, for a total area of 50 hectares.
Part of the land has already been planted, whilst the rest is currently being planted.
"Our goal - explained Franco Allegrini at the time of purchase - is to occupy the high-quality segment, even within this appellation. This is an appellation that we like: it's not very large, and the competition between producers is targeted at the high end of the market."
"The Lugana area - added Marilisa Allegrini - is very interesting, and can yield wines with depth, intensity, aromatic complexity, and even longevity. This is the type of wine, even in the white wine category, with which we identify. We export 85% of our production, so our goal is not to produce an easy-to-drink vintage wine. Our ambition is to produce a fine, long-lived white".
