YOUNG CHEFS
FROM THE ‘GENERATIONS’ PROJECT
AT VILLA DELLA TORRE

Villa della Torre Allegrini was recently the setting for the presentation of the Generations project.
The project was created by Matteo Rizzo, chef and owner of Il Desco - a historic restaurant in Verona that has had a prestigious Michelin Star for over 30 years (among the longest in Italy) - as a way to claim a leading role in Italian culinary and gastronomic excellence for the city of Verona.
"Today - explains Matteo Rizzo - Italian dining is experiencing a period of great media visibility and success but, behind every chef, there is always a company that plays an important economic and social role for a city. Our restaurants have a large number of employees and we take on the difficult task of presenting, narrating and showcasing the best that our region has to offer to Italian and foreign tourists. But doing this on our own is certainly more complex".
Other cities in Italy and Europe have succeeded in building a collaborative system, creating positive synergy among restaurateurs, and it is often the entire region that benefits from that "because food-and-wine tourism is a very important resource today - continues Rizzo. Just think of cities like Copenhagen or Bilbao in Europe, which are both destinations for gourmet enthusiasts, or the gastronomic renaissance of Milan in recent years in Italy. My colleagues and I believe that Verona has the potential to play an important role in the future".
The Generations project developed with these objectives in mind and immediately met with the agreement and enthusiasm of important young Veronese restaurateurs.
